A true Vero Beach native, Alexander “Alex” Knight has a special connection to the area as a 5th generation county resident, with a family history dating back to near the turn of the 20th century. His great-grandfather, Elbert Knight, owned a parcel of land that comprises what is now the Vero Beach Country Club Area. Looking to pursue more real estate deals in the area, he considered buying acreage on the ocean, which at the time was $500 an acre, to which Alex’s great-grandmother Betty Knight retorted “Elbert, no one wants to live on the beachside.” How things have changed. Alex’s grandfather James Lee “Pete” Knight was president of First Citrus Bank, an avid golfer, and former club champion at the Vero Beach Country Club and Dodger Pines, and a successful salesman in his company Indian River Meats. Alex’s father, Dale, grew up enjoying surfing the waves of the Atlantic Coast and fishing off its shores and has run a successful painting business, Dale Knight Painting, in the area for over 35 years. Graduating from Indian River Community College (now Indian River State College) with honors in 2007, just a few weeks before he graduated from Indian River Charter High School, Alex received his associate degree in Business Administration and Management. He grew up fishing, golfing, and playing volleyball at many of the beaches in the area. Actively involved in worldwide volunteer education work through Watchtower, he said, has helped him refine qualities of patience, confidence, compassion, hard-work, and integrity within him. As a part of his volunteer work, Alex studied Haitian Creole, is conversational in French and gained hands-on knowledge in steel framing, drywall, grid ceilings, and firestopping. That first-hand experience landed him a job in construction management as the Firestop Overseer for a 1.6 million square foot project in upstate New York where he lived, along with New York City, for almost 5 years seeing the project through from start to finish. Upon completion of that project, Alex knew the only place he wanted to be was back home in the warm shores of Vero Beach. In 2018, not long after returning, he had the privilege of going to Puerto Rico to help those affected by the aftermath of hurricane Maria where he used his construction experience reroofing many of the severely damaged homes. Loving travel, he has enjoyed visiting Belize, Canada, England, Spain, France, Italy, and Denmark, however the Cote D’Azur of France nears the top of his favorites list. During the pandemic, Alex utilized his time effectively by earning his bachelor’s degree in Clerical Business Administration from the United States Institute of Language and Clerical Studies, a fully accredited, non-profit college, headquartered in Ocala, whose programs prepare students to utilize critical thinking, cultural intelligence, and develop business integrity for today’s globalized environment. With a strong family connection to the area, experience in construction, sales, and design, Alex looks forward to helping you find the perfect property in this beautiful town his family has called home for over a century.
